Essentials of Personnel Management: Hiring and Discipline (HR01)

Participants will learn effective techniques for recruiting qualified candidates, interview techniques, strategies for getting honest references, pre-employment testing and how to make an offer that attracts the best candidates. Despite the best of efforts, every manager and physician will face a time when an employee must be disciplined or even terminated. Find out how to have fair and effective programs of progressive discipline and how to terminate employment if the circumstances call for it. This program is designed for managers and physicians.

Task Analysis, Job Descriptions and Evaluations (HR02)

A key to successful practice is having staff that know their jobs, are trained in the tasks and receive appropriate feedback and evaluations. Participants will learn how to survey the practice to determine the necessary tasks to function as well as how to develop standards for successful completion of the tasks. You will also learn how to incorporate the tasks into job descriptions based on expectations. Finally, learn how effective evaluations follow the job descriptions and provide an opportunity for the employee and management to do a better job in the future. This program is recommended for managers and physicians.

Dealing With Difficult People (HR03)

Difficult people are everywhere. There is no avoiding them so effective practices need to know how to deal with them. Participants will learn how to identify problem personality types and strategies to deal with each type. Difficult people can be employees, patients or physicians. You will learn different techniques for the different relationships that exist with these different groups. Find out how and when to respond to common problems such as outbursts, passive-aggressive behaviors, and the know-it-all ("we tried that before and it didn't work") among others. This program is designed for managers and physicians.
